Where it started

Calgary has been chosen to host the Special Olympics Canada Winter Games in 2024, a significant event aiming to enhance the athlete experience, promote inclusion, and facilitate knowledge transfer for future Games. The organizing committee's mission is to create a new brand and website that not only serves the immediate needs but also builds legacy assets for future Games.

The Process

Phase 2 involved detailed planning, wireframe creation, and page design to meet the project's vision and mission. The team worked on making the website informative, easy to navigate, and aligned with WCAG 2.1 accessibility standards. The overarching goal is to build a memorable and informative online presence while creating legacy assets for future Games.

Where it ended

This includes the creation of detailed wireframes, page designs, and the integration of additional features into the website. The project team aims to ensure that the website effectively communicates its key messages, is user-friendly, and meets all technical requirements. The completion of this phase will be a crucial milestone in the lead-up to the 2024 Special Olympics Canada Winter Games in Calgary.

Legacy Asset Creation

Build a strong brand and website foundation that can be leveraged for the upcoming Medicine Hat 2026 Games and beyond, preserving the Games' legacy and continuity.

Knowledge Transfer

Document and organize essential processes, guidelines, and resources, making them accessible to future Games' planners to facilitate smooth operations and event success.

Promote Inclusion

Celebrate athletes from a wide range of abilities by delivering a website that embodies the spirit of inclusivity, communicates the transformative power of sport, and showcases the achievements of Special Olympics athletes.

Enhance Athlete Experience

Create a website that provides valuable information and resources to ensure that all athletes have an exceptional and memorable experience during the Special Olympics Canada Winter Games.

Challenges and Project Goals
Effective Messaging

The website should be a clear and informative platform that effectively communicates key messages, delivering information about the Games, programs, and opportunities offered by Special Olympics Canada to enrich the lives of Canadians from a wide spectrum of disabilities.

Inspirational Branding

Craft a brand personality that embodies characteristics like inspiration, joy, inclusivity, determination, courage, and authenticity to resonate with the Special Olympics Canada Winter Games' spirit.

Elevating the Athlete Experience

Design, images, and content should revolve around athletes and volunteers, communicating their stories of transformation, achievement, and community, fostering an athlete-centric online presence.

Accessibility Priority

Upholding WCAG 2.1 accessibility standards is essential to ensure the website is inclusive and user-friendly for individuals of all abilities, aligning with the core mission of the Special Olympics.

What services do you offer as a freelance designer?

We offer a variety of services from: branding and strategy to print design and social media assets, all the way to hassle-free websites that you can customize without us. Our mission? To make your digital presence exciting to show off.

What are "no-code" websites and why should I consider them?

No-code websites are drag-and-drop builders that make website building a bit more accessible to non-technical folks. We use no-code builders to empower you with the skills to tweak your site without needing any web designers (including us!) down the road.

How can you improve a business' existing web presence?

First we do a deep-dive into your website- finding all the areas that need a little extra love. Next, we clean up your content and re-format it so visitors can find what you want them to see with ease. Then, it's all about applying designs to your content and making sure they look as good on desktop as they do on your phone. Finally, we update your site so you show up on Google (and/or any search engine of choice).

What is your pricing structure for your services?

We charge on a per-project basis. We understand that every project is unique, so our pricing is tailored to your needs. We usually start with a quick phone chat to understand what it is you're looking for, and then we send over a full proposal specific to your needs.
